Hypoxic tent

Hypoxic tents have become popular amongst athletes’ to enhance their performances. However the World Anti-Doping Agency may be made to think differently. The governing bodies of skiing and rowing have requested the World Anti-Doping Agency to stop athletes’ from using these kind of tents. They are like rooms/tents that replicate the low-oxygen environment of high altitude and so push the body to make more oxygen-carrying red blood cells which in turn increases the stamina of the athletes’. Whether they are to be added to the list of banned substances will be decided by the agencies ethics committee in September. The repercussion of this decision could result in a level playfield to those who do not have the funds to buy such equipment. Cyclists, runners, skiers and rowers have been known to use such tents which can simulate altitudes of up to 21,000ft/6,400m. Come September let’s hope for the best from W.A.D.A.
