This is coming up at a time of the year when everybody wants to, at least, check out vacation destinations and see what kind of deals there might be out there. But, unfortunately, tourists are not the only people who tend to frequent the big tourism hot spots of the world. All kinds of thieves just happen to know that you will be in a nice place… and that you very well might have your guard down a bit. Every item you hold dear, from your silver or gold jewelry to your cash and credit cards, all the way up to your very identity, can quite conceivably be stolen by those whose profession it is to do so. There is one truly fantastic way to greatly reduce the chances that anything you legitimately own will end up in the hands of some thief – do not take them with you. If you are on a cruise or in an unfamiliar city, do not take your laptop computer (where you keep all of your pass words). And if you happen to have some nice jewelry for when you go out at night, keep it somewhere a bit safer. For instance, all cruise ships have a safe, and many hotels also do. And when you travel, try not to carry credit cards. There is really never a good reason for you to carry more than two at a time, no matter where you are. And when you are in some far off place, one might even be too many. They invented traveler’s checks for that very reason. And as far as identification goes, while you should definitely carry it, keeping it in a tight pocket that is hard for someone to reach into would be a reasonable step toward keeping it safely in your possession.
