Wanganui cyclist Catherine Cheately has picked up a bronze medal for New Zealand in the women’s points race at the World Track Cycling Championship in Spain.
Cheatley notched 27 points which is just two behind silver medalist Mie Bekker Lacota of Denmark. Australian Katherine Bates took gold.
In another ride Cheatley finished 15th in the scratch race, while the New Zealand pair of Peter Latham and Marc Ryan failed to finish the men’s madison.
It is the first medal for a New Zealander since Sarah Ulmer and Greg Henderson both won golds three years ago. Catherine Cheately continued a proud New Zealand cycling tradition.
