We seem to be progressing on our Mars colonizing intentions as detailed height contours maps with names of geological features on the Martian surface are made ready. The European Space Agency who is credited with making the maps hopes that they will become a standard reference for future research on the Red Planet.

Scientists used data from the High-Resolution Stereo Camera (HRSC) experiment onboard ESA’s Mars Express spacecraft. Samples show the Iani Chaos region of Mars because of its major topographical interest. The contour lines are superimposed upon high-resolution images of Mars.

Data has been transformed into three-dimensional computer models of Mars, known as the HRSC Digital Terrain Models as well.
