Venezuela’s offers lush rainforests, cascading waterfalls, rich grasslands, glacier lakes, highland moors, the Andes mountain chain and a vast Caribbean coastline. Fifteen kilometers from Venezuela’s highest point situated at the foot of the Andes is the town of Merida . It is the centre for outdoor activities in Venezuela.



Even though Merida is at a tropical latitude, it has a delightfully mild climate. It is also known as Ciudad de Los Caballeros (The Gentlemen’s City, a name fully honored by its citizens’ familiar polite manners and fine spoken Spanish). This charming university town forms the hub for student intellectual life within the University of Los Andes. Merida has a range of choices for travelers of all budgets, it caters to the needs of the less fit to the extremely adventurous. Offering adventurous sports which include climbing, kayaking, canoeing, rafting, paragliding, trekking, mountain biking, fishing, and walking.



For those preferring leisure there is a choice from relaxing hot springs, tranquil mountain streams and waterfalls to gentle walks. A highlight of any visit to Merida is the teleferico cable car, the world’s longest and highest cable car, placed across 12.5 km in four stages, rising to Pico Espejo (Espejo Peak) at a height of 4600 m as per Wikipedia. It can be used to reach a various trails of high-mountain hiking and remote villages or can be taken for a day of leisurely sightseeing. So pack your bags and go feel the magic of Merida.
