Avachinsky (2,741 metres) is one of the most active stratovolcanoes on the Kamchatka peninsula. It consists of a younger cone inside the rim of an older caldera. Avachinsky has erupted at least 16 times since 1737.The most recent eruption was in 1991 and produced lava flows, a dome, and mudflows.
Avachinsky is accessible for tourists despite its activity. When the weather is good, it takes only 6-8 hours to get to its crater under the guidance of experienced instructors. Koryaksky (3,456 metres) is a volcano on the Kamchatka Peninsula in the far east of Russia. It lies within sight of the capital of Kamchatka Oblast, Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. Koryaksky erupted for the first time in recorded history in 1890.
